What Goes With What

  • Tunics look great on tall women with rectangular shapes, hourglass figures or apple middles. Pear shapes can wear a tunic if it has side vents (to prevent the tunic from clinging to thighs and rear). Petites can wear shorter lengths. To avoid looking “blobby”, show off your wrists and collarbone, look for v-necks, avoid tent-like designs, clingy fabrics and always pair the tunic with narrow pants or leggings.
  • Skinny jeans can be worn by many when paired with the right top. Stick to a reasonably fitted, longer top that skims the body. Avoid wearing skinny bottoms with puffer jackets, chunky knits or chunky footwear. You don’t want to look out of proportion. If your thighs and knees are heavy, look for a boot-cut jean.
  • Double-breasted coats look best on gals who are tall and slim. The design is overpowering for petites and looks bulky on those with an apple shape.
  • Pencil skirts look good on most bodies when paired with the right top. If you are a pear or an hourglass shape, make sure that the skirt bottom doesn’t have a mermaid shape. Wear your top tucked in with a belt for a retro look or wear a belted long top for a more casual style. Pencil skirts always look polished.
  • Flats & booties are the go-to shoes for this season. Flats look hip, youthful and are oh so comfortable.  They should be worn with narrow legged pants or slim skirts. Booties look great with narrow or boot-cut pants and fresh when paired with a skirt. Trend Alert: roll up the hem of skinny jeans or pants (above the ankle) and add a pair of booties. The good news about shoes is that all body shapes and sizes can enjoy equally.
  • Plaid & animal prints can also be worn by all shapes and sizes in tops and bottoms, and are a GREAT way to update your style. Use with caution, though, the more contrast in the pattern, the bigger you will appear. Look for the plaids and prints that have less contrast and are more tonal- a little goes a long way.

What styles are you going to wear this fall? Did you find your body shape in the sketches? I am an apple- you?
