There are commonalities in all the pictures I snapped. The French women in their street clothes are chic regardless of age, size or what they were doing. Gals at the market looked great, women headed off to work were chic and those just strolling were unbelievably put together. So, what gives?

• Perfect posture and carriage.
• Matching- something coordinated  in their outfits: shoes and handbag, handbag and scarf, tights and shoes- you get the idea.
• Many monochromatic looks or variations of one color. The result was calming and lengthening.
• Clothes are tailored to fit the individual. Over sized jackets and sweaters are combined with something close to the body.
• Scarves and hats to provide warmth and style.
• Tennis shoes- yes the French women want comfortable feet. The shoes are sleeker than athletic shoes, though.
• Attention to every detail.
• Hosiery- no bare legs.
• Ever-present sunglasses and great eyeglasses.
• Pops of color to complement black.
• Large statement handbags + a smaller crossbody bag worn together.
• Less is more- usually one focal point.
• Red lipstick or a pale neutral color.
• Inexplicable twists- high top shoes with a full skirt, a moto jacket with a chiffon skirt…
• Spring style wise- there were quite a few utility jackets, ruffles, boho fashions, lots of embroidery and eyelet, wide legged pants, white shirts, long dusters or sweaters, neutrals and honeysuckle colors were prevalent.
