Packing for Sicily was tricky.
It was challenging because we were visiting two different climates, the weather was predicted to be changeable, 75 degrees in humidity is not 75 degrees in Colorado and we visited four cities and many archeological sites. It was very different from just going to one city or region. Here’s my packing wrap-up.
I flew in my black jumpsuit, which was super comfortable, but not useful in Sicily because it was too warm. A track suit would have been better because that outfit could have been worn on Mt. Etna.
I packed warm clothes for the hike up Mt. Etna. I think I could have done fine with layering a few more tees and using the jacket from the (unpacked) track suit. It is always good to remember the rule of three: three layers and wear three times. I broke my rule and my advice to you would be to make do with a miss mash rather than bring clothing that you won’t wear again on your trip.
What was needed were more thin long sleeved shirts or tees. My cotton tees and my jeans were too warm for the most part.
The Athleta pants that I brought along were perfect as was my black tank dress, white sleeveless collared shirt, thin cardigans and my shoes.
I think it is always difficult to pack for climates different than the one that you are leaving. October is fall in Colorado; October in Sicily is just a cooler extension of summer. The funny thing, though, is that the stores were filled with cold weather clothing.
I had one outfit that was perfect , it was worn frequently and it became quite a joke because I wore it so often.
The trip was fabulous and I encourage you to visit this wonderful island where there are layers of many different civilizations, cultures and customs. The people are warm and inviting, the food is fabulous- especially if you like fish and the sites are out of this world.
The adventure of travel never ceases to amaze and inspire me. I love the serendipity of travel. You never know exactly what you will find, love or experience.
It’s time to get packing agin.
