Where Does This Go? Apply Makeup Like A Pro

Knowing how to keep your makeup fresh and updated takes a little effort –  trends come and go, faces age and products change. What used to work, now looks either too bright or too dull. Makeup should look dewy and effortless and should flatter you regardless of your age.

Concealer:  Use a yellow based color and a small flat brush to apply (sparingly) in the corner of your eye next to your nose. Do not extend the concealer to the outer corner of your eye. Never put concealer or foundation on your eyelids as a base- it will cause your eye makeup to crease.concealer

Face Primers:  Face primers such as BB or CC cream really even out skin tone and smooth pores. We love our new color correctors- the peach warms your skin tone, the lavender brightens and the green evens out the red. They go on smoothly and give your skin a glow- this is definitely a trend you want to try. Apply with fingers in the center of your face. Product does not need to cover entire face.Face primer

Foundation:  Use your fingers to apply your foundation if you want sheer coverage and a brush for medium to full coverage. Match the color exactly and apply sparingly. Again, foundation looks best if it is centered in the middle of your face. Feather it down your cheeks and put little on your forehead. That way, there won’t be any “lines”.

Powder:  Always apply powder where you are shiniest first–usually your T-zone–with a very light dusting everywhere else. Apply after your foundation and cheek color.

Bronzer:  You should put bronzer on your neck, face, and chest to even out your skin tone. Be sure to take a step back and make sure everything is the same color. Apply after foundation, cheek color and powder (if you use powder).

Cheek Color:  When applying blush, smile, then dust the apples of your cheeks, then sweep pigment towards the tops of ears, then down toward the jawline. Try a blush stick for quick pick-me-ups.

Eyebrows:  Trace brow pencil or powder along the tops of brows for an instant facelift. Use brow definer to extend the ends of the brow (where the brow has disappeared). Avoid red brown colors.

Eye Shadow:  Prep lids for any eye look with a shadow primer that matches the lightest part of your face. Shadow magnet light or natural does a great job. Eye shadow usually looks best in the eyelid crease- not on the lids. Pick a shadow color similar to your eye color to make your eye color “pop”.

Eye Liner:  Instead of looking straight ahead at the mirror, get as close to it as possible, tilt your head up, and bring your chin toward the mirror. Look down as you apply, starting at the inner corner and working your way out. Or another way is line the underneth part of your lashes (stay away from the pink part of your eyelid). Regardless, less is more when it comes to eyeliner. Always blend with a small brush after application.

Lipstick: Begin with a lip primer and then for even lipstick application, start at the cupid’s bow and extend out to the corners of the mouth before blotting. Use a brush for even application. Nothing will help you look brighter and less tired than the right color of lipstick.

Lipliner: Line your whole mouth with liner in a color similar to your lip shade. Then, fill in with lipstick. When your lipstick fades, you will still have some color.

Mascara:  Sweep the wand through the roots of your lashes and zigzag (or swiggle) as you work your way up. Comb through any clumps with a brush.

Highlight: No makeup is complete without a dab of highlighter. Use a stick highlighter to add a simple glow to your cheekbone, nose and brow-bone areas. Remember to carefully blend and smooth everything out and to go in with a light hand at all times.
